Creative Living Journal: Creative people – Claire Mothersdale
Could you tell us a bit about your background?
In my early career days I was the head window designer for Laura Ashley, which I adored. I then moved on to various careers that took me in many directions, such as PR, union work, teaching music workshops until I finally landed on floristry, but not until much later.
How did the idea for Bulb come about?
I had been working for other florists for around five years. After the the last shop closed I toyed with the idea of starting on my own. Then I decided to just take the leap and Bulb was created. A lot of folk had ideas for names but my lovely daughter came up with Bulb and I kept going back to it.
Did you have an idea for the type of company you wanted to create or did it evolve organically?
I have gone from being a subscription florist to a stylist florist to a shop owner. I like all the different aspects of so we will have to wait and see what comes next. It’s constantly evolving.
